Leave a charitable gift in your Will to – ‘The Lady with the Lamp’
May 12th, 2020 by Nightingale Law Ltd
Today, Tuesday 12th May 2020 is the 200th birthday of one of the world’s most famous nurses – Florence Nightingale.
Born in Florence in Italy on 12th May 1820, Florence Nightingale was best-known for raising the standards of nursing and educating nurses on practices, such as good hygiene and handwashing – both of which are incredibly relevant in the current Covid-19 medical climate. The temporary coronavirus Nightingale Hospitals found in major UK cities pay tribute to her trailblazing work. Florence Nightingale Foundation was set up to remember her legacy by improving health, clinical outcomes and patient experience by actively supporting nurses and midwifes through scholarship programs.
12th May marks International Nurses Day and to mark this occasion, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has designated 2020 as the Year of the Nurse and Midwife. The aim is to recognise all that is great about nurses and midwives, all of whom represent our diverse communities and provide highly skilled care and compassion to patients and their families. International Day of the Nurse is particularly special this year not just because we mark the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth, but because of the incredible work of the frontline NHS staff who are keeping us all safe in our fight against the coronavirus.
